(AP) — The Trump administration is asking for a $1.4 billion tax rebate from hotel chains in the U.S. to help pay for the infrastructure of the border wall.
In a letter to the head of the hotel industry, the Treasury Department asked for a waiver to a rule that would allow hotel chains to deduct hotel expenses from federal taxes.
The waiver request is the latest effort by the Trump administration to shore up its relationship with hotel owners.
The Treasury Department said in a written response to the AP that the waiver request will be considered “by the Treasury’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Taxation and related officials.”
